Went to school at Whalley Range and on to teacher training college at Mather and Long Millgate Colleges. Worked in so many places and at so many different things it would need another site to list them. Three sons, all grown up, Ivan, Lucas and Jacob. Favourite colour - Vermillion, at least the word is my favourite but I'm not sure what the colour looks like. Favourite children's book - Red Roofs by Enid Blyton which I read so many times I almost knew it off by heart and the pages were starting to drop out. Favourite poem - The Jumblies by Edward Lear when I want to laugh, and The Cloths of Heaven by W B Yeats when I feel thoughtful. Favourite children's film - The Time Bandits. It was funny and was also a really clever way of bringing time travel seamlessly into a credible script. Like I've tried to do in my books. Favourite adult books - The Book and the Brotherhood by Iris Murdoch and Free Fall by William Golding. Also for the brilliant fun it's given me over the years The Meaning of Liff by Douglas Adams. Favourite food - Small quantities of almost anything from anchovies to yorkshire pudding and back again. Favourite tv programme - Anything with antiques in it. It's so great because you can have it on and keep half an eye on it whilst doing any one of a million other things. If you need a sit down and you actually try to watch it, it can genuinely put you to sleep. Favourite possession - A small Russian statuette of a dancer. She is so exuberant and joyful. She is quite valueless but priceless to me. Favourite magazine - Harpers and Queens, I just love to get a peek into how the other half live. Not like in Hello or OK where it's the cult of celebrity. Harpers, by comparison is classy stuff aimed at the top set. It makes me feel like I'm an invisible guest at a posh party. |
